Jim was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois. 1968 graduate of the University of Iowa. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and was commissioned through the Aviation Officer’s Candidate Program and earned his Wings as a Naval Flight Officer. Jim served eleven years on active duty with tours as a Hurricane Hunter, a submarine chaser and on the Patrol Wing Eleven Staff. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a captain. Jim remains active in the Jacksonville business community, currently serving as President of Ameritape, Inc., a company he founded in 1990.
