Dr. Abare is beginning his 37th year at Flagler College and his 7th year as president. Dr. Abare earned his bachelor’s degree from Mercer University, his master’s from the University of North Florida, and his doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. He is a member of the Council of Presidents of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida and currently serves on the Council’s Executive Committee. He is a member of the board of directors of the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities and was elected president of FACU for 2007-08. He is a member of the Commission on Colleges for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and chairs one of the Commission’s Committees on Compliance and Reports. He is also active in the local community and serves on the board of directors for the following organizations: the St. Johns County Welfare Federation, the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce, the Betty Griffin House, the St. Augustine Foundation, and the Historic St. Augustine Research Institute. He is a member of the Parking and Traffic Committee for the City of St. Augustine. He is a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, an elder, and a former member of the church’s board of trustees. He is past president and member of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine. In February 2004, Dr. Abare was recognized by the University of North Florida Alumni Association as the recipient of the 2003 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.
